The Slab Hut Art and Craft Gallery

From very humble beginnings, the Samford Art and Craft Association has proven to be an enduring social and cultural centre for local artisans - a true resource for the Samford Valley and its surrounds - as well as providing valuable community service.

The Slab Hut Art and Craft Gallery is a unique art and craft venue located in John Scott Park, Samford.

Locally made handcrafts

You'll find unique handmade gifts designed and made by over 60 different local artists, including:

  • Textiles: patchwork quilts, silk-screened fabrics, silks, soft toys, baby clothing and blankets, handbags, purses and cushions
  • Stationery: cards, handmade papers and books
  • Jewellery & Fashion: beaded earrings, resin bracelets, silk scarves, hair accessories and upcycled pieces
  • Art: small sculptures, pottery, hand-blown glass, wood-turned pieces, paintings, drawings and other display works

There are hundreds of items on display and priced to sell, making a visit to The Slab Hut a must for anyone looking to purchase affordable, locally-handmade gifts for friends and family.

Meet the artists and crafters!

The Slab Hut is open from 10am-4pm daily and managed by a rotating roster of local artists and crafts people who have their work on display and for sale in the venue. They have a wealth of information about the art and the individuals who created it.

The centre also holds regular programs, workshops and events.

History of The Slab Hut

Building the slab hut was an initiative of late Councillor Brian Burke, to reflect Samford’s early colonial days and is now regarded as a village icon. In 1998, local Rotarians set out to turn the empty hut into a vibrant creative space, establishing a group to promote and encourage the development of art and craft among local practitioners. The Samford Art and Craft Association Inc continues to be a socio-cultural centre for local artisans in Samford Valley and a must-visit destination for day trippers from Brisbane, wanting to engage with the local arts community.

The Slab Hut opens seven days a week and acts as a tourist centre offering free brochures and information.
